After six years as the chairman of Epic/Sony Records L.A. Reid has stepped down. The announcement of the departure came on Thursday in the afternoon of May 11th, Variety reported the music mogul would be done with the company. The reason for Reid’s departure from the Sony Music company is still unknown at this time.
L.A. Reid’s accolades in the music business spans from his start with the R&B group The Deele to his time at LaFace Records (TLC, Outkast ). Alongside Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Reid and Edmonds the pair launched LaFace Records under Arista. Reid also had a successful run with Mariah Carey’s Emancipation of Mimi while at Island Def Jam Music Group.
Representatives at Epic Records have yet to respond to requests for comment. Variety was first to report the news.
